...I'll want to paint, I said.  Now that I am turning 90 I am still doing just that.

During my many years as a Dominican Sister of Peace (formerly Dominicans of  St. Catharine, Kentucky) I ministered as an educator, media specialist, amateur actor, and preacher.  At 55 I told myself, "When I'm a little old lady living at the Motherhouse, I'll want to paint, but I'll want to know how to paint." I began taking oil painting lessons at the South Bend Museum School of Art on Tuesday nights. I enjoyed it so much I kept on studying until I moved to Kentucky 20 years later. When people saw the vast number of paintings on the walls of my home and my office, they'd ask me, "How  does a busy person like you (I was Educational Media Director at U. of Notre Dame), find time to paint?" I'd respond, "I have a two-word answer." "What's that?" they'd wonder in amazement. My answer was, "TUESDAY NIGHT!" Now in my retirement I have more time to paint, My first major project was Main Street, Springfield, KY consisting of 12 scenes of this delightful two-block section of downtown. The City of Springfield purchased them and they now are on display in the Opera House, the visitor's center, on Main Street. Following this, I painted the 13 buildings of the campus of St. Catharine College. When the College closed in 2016 I was able to distribute them among the faculty, staff, and students.

Not many of my paintings are for sale, but if you are interested in inquiring, go to Contacts in the menu, and write me a note, adding your email address.  Be sure to go to More to see additional categories. The last category is Available Paintings.

On July 24, 2015 I received the 2015 Fra Angelico Award at the annual gathering of the Dominican Institute for the Arts (DIA) in Great Bend, KS. This honor is presented to a DIA artist who exemplifies Fra Angelico's dedication to furthering the Holy Preaching through the arts. DIA President, Sr. Barbara Schwarz, OP presented the award, a bronze image of Fra Angelico (1395 -1455) , the famous Italian painter who as a member of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) preached not in the pulpit, but with his art.
